Hi! I’m Kelly, teacher, and tutor on Outschool. I’m excited you’re here! One of my favorite things in the world is helping children and teens enjoy what they are learning, find success, explore their interests, and become life-long learners.

I was a middle and high school English teacher for nine years. Many of the students I taught had dyslexia and other learning differences. In 2013, I left traditional teaching to homeschool my children and pursue my love of writing. I started teaching on Outschool in 2017. Since then I’ve worked with over 300 students from all over the country and the world. Outschool is my favorite place to teach!

While I offer a number of group classes on Outschool, sometimes students benefit from more individualized attention.

Does your child struggle to understand what they read? Is it hard for them to discuss or write about what they’ve read? Do they struggle with sequencing, elaboration, or getting their ideas on to the page?

Working one-on-one, your student and I will work on the skills they are struggling to master. The class will be structured according to their needs. That may look like meeting live online or communicating via email.

If you are looking to schedule an ongoing session, please let me know so I can schedule that type of class for you. All tutoring classes are scheduled privately and we meet live on Zoom.

Tutoring Options

Individual English Language Arts Tutoring- schedule one session or schedule sessions on an as-needed basis.

Weekly One-on-One Online Language Arts Tutoring for Students age 10-15– schedule ongoing sessions; weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

Teacher Expertise

I love helping kids build their reading and writing skills and confidence. I taught English Language Arts for nine years to middle school and high school students. Many of my students had dyslexia or other learning differences. I find my love of learning, patience, and creativity helps students who were frustrated and struggling to find success.

My Goal

My goal is to help your child learn and feel confident in the skills they are having a hard time mastering.

What a Tutoring Session Might Look Like

Together your student and I can-

• read a novel together and discuss it while we read
• discuss a novel the student is reading independently or in school
• write together: brainstorm, draft, revise, and edit
• revise and edit a piece of writing the student did outside of our session
• review lessons the student learned in class but isn’t quite getting
• read a shared text and practice reading strategies
• practice skills: inferencing, reading non-fiction texts to find information, citing sources, elaboration, ect

Sessions are Crafted and Created for Your Student

The beauty of tutoring is I tailor the class to meet the needs of your student. If your child is reading a book I haven’t read, I’m happy to read it. I’ve found some of my favorite books this way!

We can meet on an as-needed basis or weekly. I offer weekday afternoon and evening sessions and weekend morning and afternoon sessions.
