Hello! If we haven’t met before, I am Kelly Sage, an English language arts teacher (20+ years) and homeschooler (13+ years).

I’ve created Creative ELA because I LOVE to teach. I believe a creative approach to learning is the best way to learn, and I know from experience what a gift it is to have high-quality, engaging resources for my homeschoolers that I can afford.

My hope is that Creative ELA classes and resources help your kids learn AND experience reading and writing in a way that offers connection, fun, and the desire to keep learning!

Essentially, Creative ELA’s membership is where I am sharing EVERYTHING I’ve learned and continue to learn as an English teacher and homeschooler.

FAQ-

Who is the Creative ELA for?

Homeschool Families! (Teachers and schoolers are welcome too!)

Ages—The materials I offer are aimed toward upper elementary, middle school, and high school students, but you know your child best, so younger students are welcome. You are also welcome to choose which classes your student takes, regardless of what grade they might be in. Choose what will work best for them.

When do classes meet?

4th-6th grade – 4 times a month, Tuesdays, September-May, 12 pm ET

7th-8th grade – 4 times a month, Tuesdays, September-May, 1 pm ET

High School – 4 times a month, Wednesdays, September-May, 12 pm ET

Creative Writing Classes and Book Clubs for students ages 8-11 meet every Thursday from 12 pm ET, and students ages 12+ meet every Thursday from 1 pm ET.

  • Creative Writing Studio—1st Thursday of the month
  • Homeschool Hangout, Topics class, or Pen Pal class—2nd Thursday of the month
  • Creative Writing Topics class—3rd Thursday of the month
  • Book Clubs—4th Thursday of the month

Note- When a national holiday falls on a Thursday, classes meet on the Monday or Tuesday before.

Check my classes page for exact dates.

Inclusivity

YES! My classes welcome students from all countries, genders, backgrounds, and beliefs, and I am committed to creating a safe space for all students. All of my materials and class discussions are secular.

Neurodiversity

Students who are neurodiverse will find my resources, classes, and unit studies offer many options and encouragement to help them learn how they learn best. I have decades of experience working with neurodiverse learners. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out.

My child hates reading/writing.

I have taught a lot of kids who hate reading and writing. It’s one of the reasons I use a creative approach. Kids do not typically hate reading and writing per se; they’re struggling because the material does not match their learning style or address their needs. My classes and resources meet kids where they are and help them learn and enjoy learning.

I have multiple children.

Great! They are all welcome to use the materials and join the classes.

I do ask you not to share my materials with other families. Instead, encourage them to join too!

Do you have to be a member to join my classes?

Yes, as of May 2026, Creative ELA classes are for members. I offer a 30-day free trial for my Classroom membership.

Why? Because remembering to register for classes takes time you probably don’t have, a membership helps create community in the classroom, which is important, and as a small business owner, this is the most affordable way I can offer my classes and stay afloat.

What are your qualifications?

I earned a BA in English and obtained my secondary English teaching license in 2004. I taught English for nine years in middle and high school classrooms. In 2013, I became a certified creative writing facilitator and started leading women’s and youth creative writing circles for Women Writing for (a) Change, Bloomington. In 2017, I started teaching online for Outschool. I currently teach on Curiosity Encouraged, LLC (Creative ELA) and Outschool. You can also find me leading classes for Women Writing for (a) Change, Bloomington, and Cambly. I no longer keep my VA or IN teaching license active since I work nationwide and worldwide. I continue to take professional development classes and keep up with new research and findings.

Do you offer refunds?

No, but you can cancel your monthly membership at any time. If you purchase a yearly membership and are unhappy, please contact me.

What happens after I sign up?

Creative ELA Library Members have instant access to the library. Creative ELA Classroom Members and All Access Members also have instant access to the library. I’ll send you an email within 24 hours, usually much quicker, which includes details about the live classes.

How do I sign up?

Choose the membership price you want and sign up 🙂

It’s that easy.

I hope your family joins our Creative ELA community! It’s the BEST!
