Description

How do we write a speech and deliver it? Let’s practice together! In this class, students will start writing a speech on a topic of their choice and practice public speaking. We’ll also discuss ways to overcome public speaking anxiety and look at several speeches given by kids on TED.

This class includes a lesson on speech writing and public speaking, as well as time to write.

NOTE—Students must pick their topic and do any necessary research before class. After registration, a pre-writing handout will be provided.

Materials–

Students will need something to write on and something to write with.
Examples Speeches- links provided in registration materials
Speech Writing Outline- provided in registration materials
Books or Internet for research (to be completed prior to class). My class, Riveting Research, is a great class to take first.

Class Structure–

In this class, students will learn about writing speeches and public speaking. I use short, fun exercises to help kids find interest and write. Students will find my classroom is a place to have fun, practice, and not worry about being perfect!

I believe in student-centered learning and in the importance of structure in a classroom.

Prior Experience-

Students do not need prior knowledge or experience with writing speeches to learn and/or enjoy this class.

Recommended Age

This class is recommended for kids 9+. Writers can write, have a scribe, or use speech-to-text.
