In A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L’Engle, Meg’s father was experimenting with the fifth dimension of time travel when he mysteriously disappeared. Soon after the novel begins, Meg, her little brother Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin are whisked off into time and space to save him. Can they outwit the forces of evil determined to blanket the world in darkness? If you enjoy adventure, magical worlds and creatures, and a lot of suspense, you’ll love this novel.

Students will read the novel A Wrinkle in Time at their pace, practice using good reading strategies to understand what they are reading, write reader response journals to engage with the text, and complete a creative project to culminate their learning. Students will also engage with each other by sharing their learnings and projects in our classroom.

For those who are not familiar with reading strategies and reader response journals, lessons will be provided. This is a class for all types of readers, including those who are reluctant and/or struggle to understand what they are reading.

Teaching Style-

I believe in a student-centered classroom where each student’s voice, ideas, and questions are valid and encouraged. My job is to support and help students find success. I also want to make sure they are enjoying the process of learning, even if it feels challenging.

Teacher/Student Interaction-

Students are encouraged to share their ideas and questions through the classroom or private message. I will use a variety of materials (videos, games, activities) to engage them. This is an independent study so there may or may not be other students taking the class at the same time. Students will be encouraged to share their projects, the activities they complete, and their learnings in the classroom so other students can see and learn from them.

Prior Knowledge-

No prior knowledge is necessary, however, if students would like an intro to reading strategies class to see if my teaching style will work for them, I do offer a one time class. It is not a prerequisite.
