Creative ELA classes and resources offer kids & teens a fun, supportive, engaging environment to learn and love to learn.

Held live on Zoom, your kids will find my virtual classroom engaging, and offers a few unique ways to encourage writing.

Creative ELA Online Classes Offer Choice

My classes offer writers a lot of choices. Choice is key to helping kids develop an interest in writing, and an interest is key to writers wanting to practice.

  • Students choose what they want to write about and the type of writing they do.
  • Students choose whether they want to share or listen.
  • Students choose how they participate.

We all learn differently, have different skills we want to work on, and have different levels of comfort. Writing asks us to be vulnerable and courageous. My goal is for kids to write and share because they feel driven to do so.

My students participate a lot. Why? Because they don’t have to.

In Creative ELA Online Classes, Students Learn By Doing

My classes encourage kids to learn by being writers.

  • Students learn how to write through short mini-lessons that share what other writers do.
  • Students have time to practice what they’ve learned.
  • Students are encouraged to practice without worrying about perfection.

Creative ELA Online Classes Lead with Encouragement

My classes offer a lot of positive reinforcement.

  • Students look at what they are doing well so they can keep building those skills.
  • Students receive authentic positive comments to encourage them to keep writing.
  • Students are encouraged to cheer one another on.
Help students revise by focusing on their writing process, their strengths and challenges, and shed the idea that a good writer is one who doesn't revise.

Creative ELA Online Classes = No Red Pens

While there is a time and place for editing, what I’ve learned over the last twenty years is if we want to encourage our kids to write and we want them to grow as writers, we have to give them time to be writers.

Being a writer is messy. We make a lot of “mistakes”. Writing is about re-visioning our words over and over again. Just like you wouldn’t glaze a piece of pottery that hadn’t been fired, we writers don’t worry about polishing our pieces until we’ve developed our ideas, crafted our characters, and figured out our message.

Creative ELA classes help students do all of the above. The more your kids write, the more you’ll see their paragraphs find organization, their descriptions bloom, and yes, even their periods find complete sentences.

I’d love for your kiddo to join my classes!

There are two ways to join.
