Description
A Creative Writing Portfolio is a great way to showcase writing and see progress.
This recorded class examines how to create a digital and physical portfolio. We’ll talk about the organization and the types of things one might include in a portfolio, including a cover, goals, brainstorming lists, drafts, and final copies.
Writers will have time to create an About Me page, set writing goals, and do a fast write. There will also be time to create a portfolio cover.
Materials-
If writers want to create a digital portfolio, they will need access to PowerPoint, Google Docs, Google Slides, or something similar.
Canva is a wonderful portfolio tool for digital portfolios. While not required, students are also welcome to use this tool during class.
If you want your student to start organizing their writing, please take time before class to gather and print any writing they have. This does not need to be new writing. I recommend letting kids pick the writing they want to include.
Paper for goal setting.
Supplies for cover if the student is making a physical cover.
I helped teachers in grades K-12 help their students create portfolios. While this class is geared toward creative writing, all of the tips can be used for any and all subjects.
Class Structure-
In this character class, students will learn about creative writing portfolios and begin to assemble their own. I use short, fun exercises to help kids find interest and write. Students will find my classroom is a place to have fun, practice, and not worry about being perfect!
