Description
The Creative ELA unit study Fire and Ice uses realistic fiction, a documentary, and poetry to help students learn about climate change and global warming. In this unit, they’ll learn about the impacts of climate change and discover the many things they can do to help create a positive change. They’ll also explore ideas of hope and connection. They’ll see how when people pay attention, work together, and aren’t afraid to speak up, they can make a difference.
In this unit, learners will read Alan Gratz’s novel Two Degrees. In this novel, readers follow three young narrators who face harrowing obstacles caused by our changing climate. They’ll learn how important it is to take global warming seriously and what young people around the world are doing to help create a safer world.
Students will be encouraged to think critically and respond to their learning by exploring realistic fiction, poetry, research, and creative writing.
