Reading books just to read them is wonderful, but what if we want to dive deeper into themes and questions and really help our kids or students digest a novel? Creative ELA Novel Studies invite readers to do just that: research, discuss, question, and use creative writing as a tool for their exploration and ideas.

Creative ELA Novel Studies
Whenever we teach a novel or piece of literature, it’s important to include a few key components. Students need pre-reading opportunities to glean any prior knowledge they might need and activities to help them find interest.
Students also need during reading activities, so they can check their comprehension and stay connected to the story.
Themes and topics help readers build connections between the novel and the real world, analyze point of view, plot development, historical events, and characterization.
They also need culminating, post-reading, activities to help them demonstrate their learning and the bigger picture (why did we just read this book?).
Each Creative ELA novel study includes:
- Topics and Themes to Explore
- Linked resources
- Pre-reading ideas
- During reading ideas
- Post-reading ideas
Great for classrooms and homeschool families, Creative ELA novel studies can be used by itself or to support your existing materials.
Just one page long, they give you topics and activities to take your readers through the novel. Pick and choose what interests your student, or use all the resources to create a multiple-week novel study.
Creative ELA novel studies for kids and teens can be found in the Creative ELA Member and Classroom Library. They are not sold separately because I want my resources to be affordable, and to do so, I need to limit my behind-the-scenes computer work. Adding items to a shop takes a lot of time!
The novel study library is constantly growing. Two new studies are added each month.
