Event Type

Let’s create a vision board to start the new year!

A vision board helps us think about what we want to learn and accomplish in the new year. It’s a place to put our hopes, dreams, and goals.

Using images and words, a vision board is a visual reminder we can go to throughout the year to find ideas.

Parents, you are welcome to join! You can create your vision board as a family or individually.

Materials-

  • Paper or piece of wood to create your vision board
  • Magazines, photographs, items to use in collage
  • Art supplies- markers, paint, colored pencils
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Washi tape or other embellishments- optional
  • This class is for all ages. I’ll spend a few minutes talking about vision boards, and then we’ll get creative. You’ll be welcome to talk and share what you’re creating during the class or get into your own quiet, creative zone.

Class Structure-

In this creative writing class, we’ll create a vision board. I use short, fun exercises to help kids find interest and create. Time will be provided for students to share their vision boards if they want to. Students will find my classroom is a place to have fun, practice, and not worry about being perfect!

Typical Class Agenda-

  • Welcome Activity
  • What is a vision board
  • Goals, Wishes, Ideas for the New Year
  • Creative prompts with time to create
  • Sharing (optional)
  • Closing activity

Teaching Style-

I believe in students centered learning and in the importance of structure in a classroom. I set classroom agreements to help create a safe, fun, inspiring space for all students to feel supported, want to participate, and be able to learn. I encourage participation but do not force it. I use materials to help students connect and find interest.

Interaction-

I encourage participation throughout the class through both the chat and verbal. I make sure to answer all questions and call on all students who wish to participate. Students will interact with each other through discussion and when sharing their writing.

Prior Experience-

Students do not need prior knowledge or experience with creative writing to learn and/or enjoy this class.

Free Writing Workshop-

This free workshop is a great way to see if my teaching style and classes are a good fit for your learner.

Let’s manifest a great new year!
