Event Type

In this class, students will bring a piece of writing they have already begun, with the hopes of finishing, revising, or editing it. Students will also learn to determine what type of help they need with their piece and how to offer constructive feedback to their peers. Each student will also keep an editing checklist for their piece of writing, which can be used for future writing as well.

Materials needed for class-

1. A piece of writing they’ve started and want to work on, copied onto a Google Doc.

Before class, their piece of writing must be copied into a Google Doc so that everyone in class can read it.

2. Questions for the group

A handout with sample feedback questions will be provided before class. Students need to bring questions with them to class. They are not permitted to ask for whatever we, the listeners, want to give them. This helps keep our time together productive and encouraging.

3. Something to write on and with

Journal, computer, speech-to-text, and scribe are all welcome

Please note that students who have written lengthy pieces of writing will need to choose a section of their piece to share. As time is limited, each student will have the same amount of time to share and receive feedback. The class size is limited to four, allowing each student ample time.

This class often meets twice a month. Students are welcome to bring the same piece to several workshops, and may want to, depending on the length of their piece and how much they work on it outside of class.

Sample Agenda-

1 pm – Welcome, revision workshop protocols, & time divided between writers

1:10- Students each share and receive the feedback they asked for

If time allows, additional revision and editing strategies will be offered.

1:50- Goals and next steps

2 pm- Class ends
