Do you have a child or teen who could use extra help understanding what they read or putting their ideas onto the page? My 1:1 English language arts tutoring sessions can help!
Reading doesn’t have to be painful (even when what we’re reading is boring!) and learning to write can be a lot of fun!
Maybe your child loses focus while they are reading, has a hard time pulling out main ideas, recalling information, or organizing their ideas.
Maybe your student needs one-on-one help to learn and reinforce strategies and lessons they are learning at school.
My gentle approach, encouraging classroom, and engaging activities paired with high-interest young adult literature might be just what your child needs!
I connect weekly with students from all over the country and world. I’d love to help your child find success.

Let’s Learn English! 1:1 English Language Arts Tutoring Sessions
Let’s Learn English is a 1:1 tutoring session individually designed for each learner’s level and goals. I choose books and materials specifically geared to help your student learn and practice English.
We will read, write, play games, and talk in English during each class.
Depending on your student’s level, I will teach-
Phonics, Vocabulary, Sight Words, Spelling, Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Writing
All English language arts tutoring sessions are interactive through Zoom and Nearpod.
Students can circle, write, and interact with the screen.
We will practice the “I do- we do- you do” method where students are directly taught the material, we practice together, and students are then invited to show their understanding independently.
For younger students, songs, puppets, and games are used to teach and engage.
For older students, games and high-interest topics like video games, animals, music, and sports are used to teach and engage.
For advanced students, high-interest literature, non-fiction, and discussion are used to teach and engage.
Before I teach your child, I will ask for information regarding their interests to ensure the books and materials I use are engaging. Learners will interact with me during the entire class.
Learners do not need to know English to take this class. I will meet them at their level.
If you are interested in English language arts tutoring, please contact me to schedule a section. We will find a time that meets your needs. If you are looking to schedule an ongoing session, please let me know so I can schedule that type of class for you. All tutoring classes are scheduled privately.
Kelly Sage ~ I am a middle/high school English teacher and a certified writing facilitator through Women Writing for (a) Change. I facilitate online and local reading and writing workshops for children, teens, and adults. I also help homeschoolers and teachers find the resources and strategies they need to help their students overcome challenges, struggles, and enjoy learning. I am currently teaching on Creative ELA, Outschool, Varsity Tutors, and Cambly.
I spent ten years working with students in college prep and remedial classrooms. Much of my work focused on helping students with dyslexia and other learning differences. My classes help readers and writers create and grow by nurturing interest, self-awareness, and connection. I also work with families to create family rhythms, problem-solve challenges and struggles, organize reading/writing workshops, create conscious learning environments, and build connections in homes and classrooms.
